Teachersˇ¦ Qualifications: To teach at our school a teacher must be a university grad; have completed a TEFL course with CELTA and Trinity preferred.Teachers must be native speakers of English and have one to two years of teaching experience.
Accommodation:Homestay all year round and a residence in the summer.All of our accommodation we do through an agency, Sara's Homestay.Very nice people.

Manhattan Language, established in 2000, is housed in a beautiful, newly remodelled facility in the center of Manhattan. Our classrooms are bright, spacious, clean and airy with large windows, high ceilings and hardwood floors. Our new, wireless computer lab is free and available to students before class and all afternoon. The school is close to all express subways, buses and trains New York Port Authority. The Empire State building, Madison Square Garden, Fifth Avenue shopping and Times Square. Our school is medium-sized; big enough to offer our students many levels of English and many program choices and small enough for our students to get to know the staff and other students well and make many new friends... Students are welcomed into the warm, friendly Manhattan Language community from their first day.

As well as our full range of weekly General English and Examination programs, we also have a NEW course which concentrates on ENGLISH PLUS!
Business English;
Music and Pop Culture in New York City and
Culinary Arts in the US
New York Art, Music and Architecture.
Each New York Culture Elective Class runs for four weeks. Most weeks will culminate in a field trip to places in New York that students have been learning about in class. The Music and Pop Culture class will learn about the musicians and musical movements of New York- Hip Hop, RAP, New Wave, Rigattone, Swing, etc. and will visit the neighborhoods where the music is found. The Business English class will study about marketing, advertising, business communication and business slang and field trips may include the Business Library, the Federal Reserve, the Financial Museum and Wall Street. Culinary Arts in the US students will learn menu vocabulary for restaurants in New York. They will learn about chefs who are famous in the US- Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse, the food they are famous for and their restaurants. Field trips will include visits to popular restaurants and meetings with chefs and participation in the TV studio audience of cooking shows.
Super Intensive and Afternoon Day schedule students will also be able to choose these electives as part of their program.
We have also enhanced our academic English offerings to better address the needs of students planning to attend American universities. We offer two intensive English classes for advanced level students. One is our very successful IBT TOEFL Test Preparation Class. The second is our University Skills Class which prepares students with for academic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. We also offer a Pre- TOEFL and College Skills Class for students at the intermediate level who are just beginning to prepare for university study.
We have plans to launch two English Plus programs in 2008. One will be English and Yoga. Students will be offered special pricing for intensive yoga classes offered daily in the afternoon or evening at a studio near the school. The second will offer students at high intermediate and advanced levels the opportunity to take a complete yoga teacher training course and earn their teacher certification. |
