Schools fight back on new UK visa regulations

Following the much hyped new visa regulations for students wanting to study in the UK for periods longer than SIX months, English UK has now drawn up a document listing all the possible dangers of the new system along with several important proposals for the government to think about.

At the heart of all the problems facing the UK private language school industry is that under the new regulations, ALL students must be B1 standard to enter the UK to study on a language course. This is tantamount to saying that a student has to be able to speak English to get on an English course! It is as simple and illogical as that. Language schools by their nature teach the majority of the classes at A2 level to elementary stadard students. These will now be barred from long-stay courses.

The impact on the industry will be massive with, as English UK point out, a possible loss in revenue amounting to well over 300 million pounds and as many as 3,400 jobs in realted and dependant sectors.

To complicate matters further, the government are now planning a new 'banding' for institutions which can issue the new CAS visa application numbers. All these colleges and schools must be on a list entitled: 'highly trusted status' to be able to issue these. Surprisingly, all public institutions will automatically ascend to this status but private institutions must 'earn' this privilege. Many schools are not plaesed with such a subjective assessment of our industry and Pariament is being petitioned at the moment to get the rule amended, changed or dropped as soon as possible.

As a result, the whole area of visa issuing from private institutions is still as chaotic and unresolved as it has been for the past 12 weeks or so with no sign of it improving either. Agents are advised to contact ALL their partner schools in the UK to ascertain if they all have been given the authority to issue the CAS numbers and to get clarification on individual school strategies re. visas. Also check school websites - these are being updated almost on a daily basis at the moment.

Manchester Academy of English in 2010!

There are many changes at ¡¥Manacad¡¦ in 2010. First we have introduced the teacher training programme (TKT) at our school. The provisional dates for the two-week course to be held in the UK are 21st June to 2nd July 2010. The price of the two-week course will be ¢G 250 per week. This fee does not include the Cambridge assessment fee for each module (there are three of them) which is ¢G17.71 per candidate per module.

We have also substantially updated our website (www.manacad.co.uk)

We have undergone a refurbishment over the New Year, removing a classroom to double the student lounge in size and extending the reception area and we have also renovated both the male and female toilets on the first floor.

Exciting times at the Manchetser Academy of English. For more information on courses and dates and fees for 2010 please contact Celine or Emma Kneale at: info@manacad.co.uk

Free Bird Institute (FIJI ISLANDS) joins Asiaquest

We are really delighted to welcome the Free Bird Institute (in the FIJI ISLANDS) to the Asiaquest group this week.
The Institute offers a whole range of English courses with native English teachers in a safe, warm and exciting environment.

What makes it even better though is that there are no stringent visa regulations which are now making it so hard for students from Asia to study abroad.

At Free Bird you can learn English for short or long periods and then in the afternoon swim in the sea, year round!
Have a ook at their page on our site for more information. It's as close to living in Paradise as you can get!!
